In February 2002, Uri Geller announced that the 20th of the month would be a day of special spiritual power: the date (20-02-2002) was a rare palindrome, he explained, because it reads the same backwards as forwards, uses just two numbers and has perfect repetition within each stage.
Geller told believers to compile a wish list and to look into a photograph of his eyes (like that published in The Sunday People) at 11.11am, 1.11pm and 11.11pm while they visualised their wish.
He also told them not to worry if they felt warm, saw an orange and blue aura around his eyes, or observed things jumping off their shelves.
"It will be the first time anyone in the world has tried to bring
people together through mind power on such a staggering scale and on such a significant date," he declared. "Imagine throwing a stone into a pond and watching the ripples on the surface expand and expand to cover the whole pond. The date is the pond and I am a stone -- the ripples are the effects these components have on each of us..."
Some time later, one critic remarked that, because his wish had not come true, Geller had clearly been proven a fraud. His wish? That Uri Geller would disappear!
