The Australian pianist Percy Grainger once performed for a women's club matinee audience on Long Island. A friend, having gone to hear him, later accused Grainger of deliberately shortening his rendition of Grieg's "Ballade." "That's right," Grainger drily replied, "I dropped six pages out of the middle so I could catch the 4:58."
