Arnold Schwarzenegger was present on the historic day in 1970 when Vasily Alexeyev became the first man ever to clean and jerk 500 pounds.
"Alexeyev asked for 499," Schwarzenegger recalled, "because the psychology of 500 pounds screwed up all the weightlifters. He lifted it. But when they weighed it, they found it to be 501 and one half. That same year six guys lifted over 500."
