One night during the Latin American leg of her "Feast on Scraps" tour (in September 2003), Alanis Morissette played her first ever gig in Peru, entertaining 14,000 screaming fans in Lima's Monumental Stadium. Hot-tempered Peruvian patriots were still screaming long after the concert -- which Alanis ended with the accidental shout-out: "Thank you, Brazil!"
(Though Alanis was harshly criticised by the Peruvian press, some newspapers were more forgiving. "It must have been the emotion she felt," one remarked, "for being in Peru.")
["Alanis toured Latin America three or four years ago," Shakira reported in 2002. "I think she was in Venezuela, and an interviewer asked her how she felt being compared to me. She was, like, 'Who?' She'd never heard of me..."]
