Thomas Haden Church: "We used the actual wineries [while shooting Sideways]. Like Sanford and Andrew Murray and Firestone. But there was one -- we actually shot it as Fess Parker -- but it's the one we kind of make fun of as the big corporate winery in the movie. And Fess Parker did not want us to say Fess Parker and then bash it in the movie. So Alexander Payne changed it to Frass Canyon.
Why Frass Canyon?
"An exterminator came one weekend. And Alexander, who's very observant, said, 'What is that sand-like granular material around the baseboard?' And the guy said, 'That's frass?' And Alexander said, 'What is frass?' And the guy said, 'It's insect feces.'
"So it's Insect Feces Canyon winery!"
