In order to promote a celebrity-studded rally to combat violence against women at New York's Madison Square Garden in February, 2001, the event's sponsor, Marie Claire magazine, asked several celebrities to answer a question raised in Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues":
If your vagina were to wear clothes, what would it wear? And what would it say?
Claire Danes' vagina, the actress declared, would cloak itself in "a vintage red silk cape." And what would it say? It would cry, "Hooray for this!"
[New Yorker scribe Nancy Franklin's verdict? "Mine would wear earplugs, so it wouldn't have to listen to such dopey lines of inquiry."]
