When Gary Cooper first left his native Montana for Hollywood, he was seduced by the glamorous jet-setting Countess di Frasso who -- in a bid to imbue her handsome but naive lover with the proper poise and sophistication -- brought him to Europe.
Some time later, Gene Fowler remarked that he had seen neither contessa nor Cooper in recent memory -- and was apprised of their hasty departure. "Oh, well," Fowler declared, "everyone knows the best way to go to Europe is on the Countess di Frasso."
