As a joke, Dave Eggers and Adam Rich (famed for his role as Nicholas Bradford on the '70s sitcom "Eight is Enough") once started a rumor that Adam was dead. The stunt was a great success; indeed, the story was picked up by media outlets and obituaries appeared across the nation. The only problem? "We forgot," Eggers later recalled, "to tell his family and friends!"
