Doug Anthony: Muddle East Peace

One afternoon in 1967, as the six-day war raged between Israel and its Arab neighbors in the Middle East, Australian National Party leader Doug Anthony expressed his profound hope that "the Jews and Arabs could settle their differences in a truly Christian manner."

[On another occasion, Anthony referred to the Shah of Iran (Mohammed el Pahlavi) as Mohammed el Pavlova. What is pavlova? A well known Australian meringue-based dessert, named after a Russian ballerina.]
