At a dinner party one evening the great Polish actress Helena Modjeska, famed for her realistic and emotional style of acting, gave a dramatic reading in her native tongue. Though her fellow guests did not speak Polish, many were in tears by the time she was finished. They were later amused to learn that she had simply recited the Polish alphabet.
