Family Honor

"When Davy Burnaby chose the stage as a profession, his father thought that perhaps it was better for him not to use the family name. He consented and under another name joined Lilly Langtry's company. While they were rehearsing The Crossways for tour King Edward VII ordered a Command Performance. Davy wrote home and told them he was to make his first professional appearance at the Imperial before the King. His father wrote back to congratulate him: 'I think perhaps after all you might use the name of Burnaby.'"
