In the presidential election of 1948, telephone polls (which proved to be too selective) inaccurately predicted a Thomas Dewey presidency. When, the morning after the election, Harry S Truman was declared the surprise victor, Bob Hope sent the triumphant Truman a one-word telegram: "Unpack."
