Jay Leno, Leading with my Chin, p. 48
Jay Leno: "Having a brother in Vietnam was, of course, a very frightening experience, as many families know. All you can do is hope that no bad news comes. I remember watching television with my mom and dad one Sunday night when we heard a car pull into our driveway. Then we heard the car door open and footsteps coming up the walk. Next our screen door opened and it sounded like something had been thrown into the house. This was all very ominous. My father went to check and came back holding a telegram. Without opening it, he laid the telegram on the dining room table and just stared at it. My mother and I saw this and, slowly, we all sat down around the table, looking at the telegram. Nobody said anything for ten minutes. We just sat there, feeling kind of sick and very scared. Finally, my father reached for the telegram and slit it open. He cleared his throat and began to read aloud:
"'Dear Mr. Leno: You are invited to Wentworth Chevrolet to
view the exciting new Caprice Classic!'
"My father was furious! He never drove a Chevrolet again for the rest of his life."
