In 1996, Linda and Paul McCartney, devout vegetarians, placed an ad in The New Yorker magazine for "Paul's Furs." The ad urged customers to "save thousands" by calling for a "Free Fur Video."
Prospective customers who answered the ad were surprised to receive, courtesy of PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals), a gruesomely "educational" animal snuff video.
[To promote their 1971 album Ram, Paul and Linda produced a second record, entitled Brung To Ewe By Hal Smith, complete with the sound of bleating sheep.]
