"My first commercial was for IBM, when I was only 17," Tamala Jones once recalled. "I ad-libbed: 'If you don't get a high school education, you can't even get a job at McDonald's.'"
The line proved to be ironically prophetic. "When I started making all that money, my mom and I were like two kids together," Jones explained. "We really enjoyed ourselves. I was partying all the time. It was like, 'Hey, I'm a star now.' We went through the money fast, and I went into debt. Next thing I know, I'm at Subway making $4.25 an hour!"
["That was definitely a reality check," Jones recalled. "I said to myself, 'Honey, you have got to get your s--- together.'" She soon quit and went crawling back to her agency, promising to be more responsible.]
