Trivia about Height, Myths and Shortness

Contrary to popular belief, Napoleon Bonaparte was not especially short. In fact, Napoleon was five feet six inches tall (168 cm), which was the average height for a Frenchman at the time. The myth of his short stature was fed by caricatures playing on Napoleon's nickname, le petit caporal -- an affectionate reference not to his size but to his camaraderie with ordinary soldiers.
