Tom Cruise once attended a press conference in Taiwan to promote the film Vanilla Sky. When a mobile telephone began to ring, Cruise became rather annoyed. When a second one rang, he snatched it from the reporter's hand and answered in Chinese.
"Wei," he said (Chinese for "Hello") as other reporters chuckled. "Hello, this is Tom Cruise... How are you doing? Is there anything I can do for you? We're having a press conference here."
Receiving no reply, Cruise then smiled, said goodbye, and returned the phone to its embarrassed owner.

["Yes, yes," she said, "that was really Tom Cruise."]
