Young Kid Rock: Hard-Driving Father

Kid Rock's relationship with his hard-driving father (whom he later lambasted on "My Oedipus Complex," on History of Rock) was strained from the outset. "My dad had his own car dealership," he once recalled, "but I thought we were poor. My mom used to sew our socks. We were coupon-cutters... I knew kids who had Camaros, and their dads worked in the Ford plant on the assembly line. My dad owned a car lot, but I had a f---in' Mercury Lynx."
