ImagesMandu Jahaz Mahal

During the 15th Century the Malwa capital was moved to Mandu. The date of construction of the palace complex is uncertain but thought to be during the reign of Ghiyas al-Din (r.1469-1500). The architecture is a blend of local and imported styles: one of the latter derives from Afghanistan. The Jahaz Mahal is located between two lakes and was constructed in the shape of a ship. It is 361 feet long by 56 feet wide. The Moghul emperor Jahangir enjoyed staying here.
